Swanpool to Maenporth

We are now fast approaching the launch of our second collection. This time we have been walking the coast path between Swanpool and Maenporth. This is our regular walk, Sarah swims at Swanpool daily, and my dog, Shyla loves the walk along the coast - she is also a fan of racing through the Swanpool crazy golf course! We knew we wanted to create Swanpool pink, a colour Sarah has been working with for some time, and I was on the hunt for some good warm colours for my practice.
Last week we went back to walk it again together, having collected mostly separately across the winter months - I tend to be a hermit when it is dark! Whilst scrambling through the extraordinary bluebell wood, we came across a recently fallen tree, probably another victim of Storm Goretti and the other storms that have torn Cornwall apart lately. Sarah and I took a hiatus from this collection in the Spring to work with a beautiful and ancient oak that fell in her garden for the same reason. Stood in the Swanpool woods, we were delighted to find a beautiful yellow clay in the roots of the tree, which may sneak it’s way into the collection somewhere! This exploration has been caught on film, so you will very likely spot us red-faced and covered in mud in the new short feature, which we have been very busy working on with a lovely local film crew. This new behind-the-scenes content will be available very soon - so watch the Instagram and website for updates!
The gorse has been just extraordinary all winter. Bright yellow against the slate grey skies and sleeting rain, so it is with great delight that gorse is back in this collection once again. Sloe berries also make an appearance - the very last of the winter hoard and the fresh nettles as they came through in early spring. As usual, alongside the brighter colours, Sarah has also made some gorgeous black for writing (or drawing), as well as two beautiful sepia tones, which look just stunning with a dip pen. We are particularly proud of our watercolour palettes, a new edition this season. Check out our product pictures below!
We really hope you will join us at our launch event at Cornwall Open Studios from the 23rd May: https://www.cornwallopenstudios.co.uk/artist/441/cornish-inks
